Walking in the Rain is a most humbling experience.

Spent a weekend in Portland for HND Board Retreat learned a lot of new things and planned for the next six months. Took on more responsiblities again then maybe I shouldnt have but thats how life is. Had an awesome community reception met interesting people saw some old friends back from the HND conference in DC back in 2003. Good to know they are doing extemely well because of their experience. In addition to the retreat this weekend was also a weekend full of story telling about Hmong life back in Laos. My professor shared his usual stories of his life in Laos... and I got to meet some long lost relatives who I never met for the first time. They were really interesting and glad to meet me because they always heard so much about me but meeting in person was quite different. I had to speak Hmong fluently for hours and hours. My uncle shared many interesting stories of my dad and grandfather and great great uncles and grandfathers stories that were even passed on to him when he was young. A quite interesting moment exceptionally surprisingly to learn everything. Didnt take much pictures because it was rainy so I just left my camera in my room. Definately a place to visit again :)

Off to HND Board Retreat in Portland tomorrow until Monday hope it doesnt rain too much.

IM Dodgeball... well we went from the third worst team to the worst team out of 10 teams lol... if only tonight we had more female players our record could have been 4-11 but we have to settle for being the last place team at 2-13 despite all the losing it was a good fun effort from everyone who came out the last five weeks and get pounded by the balls. We give every team a run for their money. We came close to knocking off of few of the better teams. There were some crazy teams who practiced way too much and its a game of strategy, skills, strength and speed which none of the APSA guys had much of including myself.... props to our Most Valuable Player (MVP): Maria Yang she was usually the last person alive in our games and you could see her running around with 6 people throwing balls and missing her :)

Blong Xiong handily won election to the Fresno City Council on Tuesday,
becoming the first Hmong in California to win a city council seat.

He also will become the first Asian-American to sit on the Fresno City
Council when he is sworn into office Jan. 2 during the board's first meeting
of 2007.

Other surprises included a shakeup of Fresno Unified School District's Board
of Trustees with the election of newcomers Cal Johnson and Michelle Arax
Asadoorian. In addition, two incumbents opposed by the Voices for Excellence
slate -- Valerie Davis and Tony Vang -- held off their challengers.

Though the vote suggests that the district's teacher union will flex more
muscle on the school board, all of the winners are high-quality individuals
whom I expect to continue the push to turn around Fresno Unified.
